Therapy
The most important voyage of all is the one in which you stand still, remain in place, and discover how to embrace what already exists.
Challenges
The challenges expatriates or internationals face are universal, in the sense that they confront the same issues as any other human being. However, being an expat or living an international lifestyle adds extra layers of complexity due to the need to navigate multiple cultures simultaneously.
While I address a variety of personal challenges, my expertise lies in addressing issues, often experienced by expats, and the most important ones are:
- Identity loss / Personal crisis
- Negative thoughts and emotions
- Low self-esteem
- Loneliness / Isolation
- Homesickness
- Rootlessness
- Relationship difficulties
- Depression
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Loss & Grief
- Work-life balance
- Addiction-related concerns
Thanks to Sisse, I was able to rediscover myself after a few challenging years. She helped me restore my self-esteem and provided me with a wealth of tools to help me feel better about myself and manage my emotions more effectively. Sisse's extensive experience as an expat and her deep understanding of French culture were incredibly beneficial, as she perfectly understands the challenges and emotions that expats face.
Personal and cultural identity
Despite the undeniable richness and opportunities that a multicultural life offers, expatriates encounter significant challenges, such as establishing a sense of personal and cultural identity. These identity-related questions encompass not only “Who am I?” and “Where do I belong?” but also “What does it mean to be me in this new environment?”.
Loneliness and isolation
The sense of loneliness and isolation is an inherent aspect of being human, affecting people universally, irrespective of nationality or location. However, for expatriates, this existential isolation becomes more pronounced due to their departure from familiar surroundings and because they are exposed to more frequent changes than the average population.
Survival strategy
When faced with difficulties, most people resort to coping mechanisms. Often, we’re exceptionally good at criticizing everything and everyone, when we’re unaware of it. We tend to externalize our miseries, attributing our unhappiness to the country, the location, the culture, the marriage, the job, the boss, or our financial situation. Alternatively, we may internalize the blame or resort to overindulgence in food, drinks, substances, or activities, all in an attempt to numb the pain and escape our reality. This pattern creates a destructive cycle of negativity.
But it doesn’t have to be this way – there is a way out – or rather, a way home. Let me show you.
Personal therapy
Awareness is the initial step towards change, because we cannot alter what we do not understand. So I am here to help you expand your awareness.
Together in a safe and comfortable setting we will disentangle the web of complexity of your life. To gain clarity, we need to untangle the threads, so that you can become aware of the areas in your life where change is necessary.
Together we will explore the four dimensions that define your life:
- The Inner Universe
- The Physical Universe
- The Social Universe
- The External Universe
The key is to establish balance in all four areas of your life, enhancing your overall well-being. And not least to help you reconnect with yourself. To guide you Home.
I will help you identify the underlying reasons why your current life isn’t aligning with your desires and why your efforts aren’t producing the desired results.
And I will show you precisely what it takes to effect meaningful changes in your life and truly start living, rather than merely surviving.
Under Sisse's guidance, I've discovered a path to self-discovery, healing, and personal empowerment. I've gained a better understanding of myself and acquired invaluable life skills that I will carry with me throughout my life. I'm grateful for the positive impact she's had on my life. I am now more aware of my triggers and coping mechanisms, and I am better equipped to manage whatever life throws at me. I am also beginning to develop healthier relationships with myself and others.
The aim is to empower you to consciously assume responsibility for and take control of your life, rather than being at the mercy of other people, or external circumstances.
Psychotherapy
In general, psychotherapy encompasses a range of clinical treatment methods aimed at assisting individuals in coping with psychological and personal challenges.
Common to all forms of psychotherapy is the emphasis on identifying and subsequently altering the underlying dynamics, patterns, and mechanisms that contribute to symptoms.
In essence, the objective of psychotherapy is to provide support and help individuals gain insight into and comprehend their mental health issues, equipping them with the tools necessary to enhance their functioning in daily life and achieve an improved quality of life.
